U.S. President Donald Trump has described a newly signed transport corridor between Armenia and Azerbaijan as a “historic deal” for international peace.
Donald Trump said the agreement, which he claimed his administration signed three months ago, marks one of eight conflicts he has resolved during his presidency.
“This historic agreement also includes construction of the new Trump route. It’s a beautiful thing,” he told Central Asian leaders during a meeting at The White House.
“They named it after me. I really appreciate that. It’s actually a big deal. This is the new Trump route for international peace,” Trump added.
The proposed route will cross a strategically important region and aims to increase trade activity beyond the Caspian Sea, providing economic opportunities for Central Asian nations.
“I’m confident that every country represented here today will embrace the opportunities presented by this agreement and benefit from the possibilities of peace,” he said.
