U.S. President Donald Trump said on Friday he would lift all fentanyl-related tariffs on Chinese goods if Beijing takes concrete steps to restrict exports of the drug and the precursor chemicals used to produce it.

Speaking aboard Air Force One, Trump said he discussed the issue with Chinese President Xi Jinping a day earlier in South Korea.

“China’s working very hard and I really believe that they have an incentive,” he said. “As soon as we see that, we’ll get rid of the other 10%.”

The announcement came a day after Trump halved the levy on fentanyl-linked Chinese imports from 20% to 10%. He also pointed to what he described as record economic gains from his recent Asia trip.

“We took in approximately $3 trillion over the last few days from the trips that we made … We have numbers coming to our farmers that the farmers have never seen before from China,” Trump said, urging U.S. farmers to “buy larger tractors and more land.”

Trump said China has agreed to resume large-scale purchases of U.S. soybeans and other agricultural goods, while Washington will not impose export controls on rare earth minerals.
