Trump meets with Qatar's Emir aboard Air Force One

U.S. President Donald Trump met with the Emir and Prime Minister of Qatar on Saturday during a refueling stop en route to Asia, officials confirmed.

The Qatari leaders boarded Air Force One upon its arrival at Al Udeid Air Base, home to the U.S. military's regional headquarters and thousands of American troops.

Trump praised the Qatari leaders for their pivotal role in the Middle East peace process, noting that Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani had been a "friend to the world."

Qatari leaders are set to discuss the Gaza ceasefire and the potential deployment of peacekeeping forces with U.S. President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio during a refueling stop in Doha. Speaking to the press on Saturday, Trump stated that Qatar would send peacekeeping troops to Gaza if necessary.

“This should be a lasting peace,” Trump said when asked about the Gaza situation. He also noted that efforts to stabilize Gaza were progressing and commended Qatar as a strong ally and a crucial player in regional stability.
