U.S. President Donald Trump said Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan could play a key role in ending the Russia-Ukraine war, citing his strong ties with Moscow.

Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One after the Sharm El-Sheikh peace summit in Egypt, Trump said, “Erdogan can. He’s respected by Russia.”

Trump and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi hosted over 20 world leaders, including Erdogan, for a summit focused on the Gaza ceasefire. Türkiye has long pushed for negotiations between Moscow and Kyiv, offering to mediate for peace.

Trump also confirmed plans to meet Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at the White House on Friday. Zelenskyy said he will present proposals focused on air defense and long-range strike capabilities “to pressure Russia for peace.”
