Russia carried out airstrikes across Ukraine on Sunday (October 5), with Ukrainian officials reporting waves of missiles and drones targeting the Lviv region.

Regional governor Maksym Kozytskyi said on Telegram that four people were killed and two others wounded in the attacks. Air raid sirens sounded across the country for several hours overnight, as Ukraine’s Air Force warned of heavy missile and drone assaults on Lviv.

Lviv’s mayor, Andriy Sadovyi, said the city’s air defence systems were “actively engaged” in repelling successive drone and missile strikes. Located about 70 kilometres (43 miles) from the Polish border, the western city was left partially without power by morning. Public transport services were suspended, and residents were urged to stay indoors due to ongoing danger.

Reuters reporters in Lviv said the sound of air defence fire could be heard from multiple directions throughout the night.
