Two tourists have died in an accident on Vilyuchinsky Volcano in Russia’s Kamchatka Peninsula. According to regional authorities, the incident occurred during an unregistered climb, with one man pronounced dead at the scene and a woman later succumbing to her severe injuries.

A third climber survived unharmed and was escorted down by rescuers. The accident took place near the city of Yelizovo, prompting an immediate response from a 45-strong rescue team, including medics and mountain specialists. A helicopter crew and a 23-member ground team reached the climbers at approximately 1,500 metres.

The Investigative Committee for Kamchatka Krai has launched an inquiry into the incident. Vilyuchinsky Volcano, located around 70 kilometres south of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, is popular with climbers but is considered hazardous due to its steep slopes and unstable terrain.
