Elon Musk has become the first person in history to amass a net worth close to $500 billion, driven by rising Tesla shares and soaring valuations of his other ventures.

Musk’s wealth reached $499.5 billion as of 3:55 p.m. ET on Wednesday, according to Forbes’ billionaire index. The surge comes as Tesla’s stock continues to rally, rising more than 14% this year and nearly 4% on Wednesday alone, adding over $7 billion to Musk’s fortune.

The company’s board recently proposed a $1 trillion compensation package for Musk, highlighting his pivotal role as Tesla shifts its focus toward artificial intelligence and robotics.

His wealth has also been boosted by significant valuation gains at xAI, Musk’s artificial intelligence startup, and SpaceX, his space exploration company.

Oracle co-founder Larry Ellison remains a distant second on the Forbes list, with a net worth of about $351.5 billion as of Wednesday.
