Swiss International Air Lines (SWISS), part of the Lufthansa Group, had to land immediately after smoke was detected in the carrier and the cockpit of the plane.
Smoke was observed in the Airbus 220-300, which was headed from Bucharest, Romania, to Zurich on Monday. However, things didn’t go as planned.
The airline reported that the crew decided to abort the flight due to engine problems. The aircraft made an emergency landing in the city of Graz.
Initially, 79 people were on board flight LX1885, five of them were crew members. The aircraft landed without any issues. Passengers and crew members got immediately evacuated, with one crew member taken to the hospital and 12 passengers and four crew members receiving medical care. Their conditions remain unclear.

SWISS stated that it remains in close contact with authorities and is working diligently to determine the cause of the incident. The airline arranged two special flights, with one scheduled to transport passengers from Graz to Zurich on Tuesday morning.

The aircraft has been removed from the runway, but the exact cause of the smoke remains unclear as investigations are ongoing.
