Washington sets Russian oil restriction as condition for India trade agreement

The U.S. considers limiting India’s purchases of Russian oil a key requirement for reaching a trade agreement.

American officials leading the talks have told their Indian counterparts that this step is necessary to reduce tariffs and finalise a trade deal between Washington and New Delhi.

The U.S. says negotiations are progressing well, but additional work is needed to address its main concerns over market access, trade deficits, and oil supplies from Russia.
