Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with a U.S. congressional delegation led by Representative Adam Smith in Beijing on Tuesday.

Wang, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, noted that this marks the first visit by a U.S. congressional delegation to China since 2019. He described the trip as an ice-breaking visit, reflecting the perspectives of the main U.S. political parties and the American public’s expectations for China-U.S. relations.

Wang highlighted that Chinese President Xi Jinping has maintained communication with U.S. President Donald Trump, with three phone calls this year helping to set the tone and guide the development of bilateral relations. He stressed that the current stabilizing trend in China-U.S. ties is hard-won and should be valued.

China’s doors remain open to exchanges, Wang added, encouraging more visits from U.S. Congress members to further strengthen dialogue and mutual understanding.
