Israel to close West Bank-Jordan crossing from Wednesday, Palestinian border authority says

Israel will indefinitely close the only crossing between the Israeli-occupied West Bank and Jordan starting Wednesday (September 24), just days after it was reopened following a shooting that killed two Israeli soldiers.

A spokesperson for the authority managing the Allenby crossing said the closure would take effect Wednesday morning "at the direction of the political leadership," without providing further details.

The crossing serves as the main route for Palestinians in the West Bank to travel abroad and is also used for transporting commercial goods between Jordan and the West Bank.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office did not respond to requests for comment during a public holiday, while the military referred inquiries back to the prime minister’s office.
