Jerusalem protests demand hostages' release as Israel escalates Gaza operation

As Israel launches a major ground offensive in Gaza City, families of hostages and activists in Jerusalem demand the immediate release of captives, intensifying pressure on Prime Minister Netanyahu.

On September 16, 2025, Israel initiated a large-scale ground operation in Gaza City, marking a significant escalation in its military campaign against Hamas. The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) deployed tanks and remotely-controlled explosive-laden armored vehicles, aiming to dismantle Hamas's strongholds. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that the offensive's objectives were to defeat the enemy and evacuate the population, omitting prior commitments to rescue hostages, prompting protests from hostage families.

In response to the escalating conflict, families of hostages and supporters have staged continuous protests in Jerusalem, demanding a ceasefire and the safe return of captives. Demonstrators have gathered outside Netanyahu's residence, expressing concern that the ongoing military operations are endangering the lives of those still held in Gaza.
