Protesters gathered outside Windsor Castle on Tuesday ahead of Donald Trump’s state visit, unfurling banners as police stepped up security around the royal residence.

Demonstrators held placards and chanted slogans near Windsor Parish Church, just metres from the castle gates. One large banner depicting Trump alongside convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein was raised by activists who said it had been crowdfunded.

The protest comes as the UK prepares to host the US president for his second state visit, which is scheduled to begin on Tuesday. Trump will meet the King and Queen and attend a state banquet at Windsor Castle during the three-day trip.

Activists say the demonstrations are aimed at highlighting opposition to Trump’s policies on immigration, climate change, and foreign affairs, while also criticising the UK government for “rolling out the red carpet” for the controversial leader.

Mass protests are also planned in London on Wednesday, with organisers expecting thousands to take to the streets.
