North Korea will unveil a new policy linking nuclear and conventional military development at its upcoming ruling party congress, Kim Jong Un announced.

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un stated that the country will present a defence policy of simultaneously advancing nuclear and conventional forces during the 9th Congress of the Workers' Party of Korea, according to state media KCNA. The announcement came during Kim's visit to military research facilities, where he reviewed weapons progress and reaffirmed his focus on strategic military development.

On Friday, Kim also observed a live-fire shooting drill by North Korean forces and inspected a major hospital construction project, highlighting a broader range of domestic activity following his high-profile visit to Beijing earlier this month. That trip included meetings with Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin, which elevated Kim’s international standing.

In a related commentary, KCNA sharply criticised an upcoming U.S.-South Korea tabletop exercise, labelling it a "nuclear war drill" and claiming it further justifies North Korea’s evolving nuclear posture.
