Guyana's ruling People's Progressive Party (PPP) secured more than double the votes of its closest competitor in the country's general election, positioning it for a parliamentary majority and another term for President Irfaan Ali.

PPP garnered 242,451 votes in Monday's election, according to the official figures from the electoral commission across all ten districts. The results marked a shift in the opposition landscape, with the newly-formed We Invest in Nationhood (WIN) party, founded just three months ago by business magnate Azruddin Mohamed, emerging as the second-largest, winning 109,015 votes and claiming a majority in two districts.

Veteran opposition coalition A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) trailed with 77,973 votes nationwide.
