State media KCNA reported on Sunday that North Korean leader Kim Jong Un oversaw the launch of new air defence missiles, showcasing their ability to counter aerial threats.

The launch came on the eve of a summit between U.S. President Donald Trump and South Korean President Lee Jae Myung.

Earlier this month, Kim criticised the U.S.-South Korea joint military exercises, calling them proof of continued hostility and vowing to accelerate his country’s nuclear program.

According to KCNA, the new missile systems demonstrated a “fast response” against aerial targets, including attack drones and cruise missiles.
