An explosion at an industrial plant in Roseland, Louisiana, on Friday (22 August) sent thick smoke billowing into the air and forced authorities to order mass evacuations.

The blast occurred shortly before 1 p.m. local time (18:00 GMT) at Smitty’s Supply, a lubricant manufacturer based in Roseland. Firefighters were seen working to douse the flames as plumes of black smoke rose high above the facility.

Aerial footage verified by Reuters showed surrounding buildings, treelines and storage tanks consistent with satellite imagery of the site. Officials confirmed the timing of the incident.

The initial evacuation order was expanded to cover a one-mile radius around the plant, although authorities said no injuries have been reported. Emergency crews remain at the scene, while agencies investigate the cause of the explosion.

The incident has raised fresh concerns over safety procedures at industrial facilities in the region. Local residents have been urged to remain away from the area until further notice.
