Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Tuesday that last week’s U.S.-Russia summit in Alaska showed U.S. President Donald Trump and his team were genuinely committed to securing a long-term and sustainable peace in Ukraine.

Lavrov described the atmosphere at the Putin-Trump meeting as “very good”. Speaking to Rossiya 24 television, he said it was evident that Washington wanted results that would be “long-term, sustainable, reliable.”

He contrasted what he called the constructive U.S. stance with that of European leaders, some of whom joined Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at Monday’s White House summit. According to Lavrov, “the Europeans insisted only on a ceasefire, while planning to continue supplying weapons to Ukraine.”
