Russian President Vladimir Putin held a phone conversation with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un on Tuesday, informing him about his scheduled meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump in Alaska later this week, according to the Kremlin.

North Korea’s state news agency KCNA confirmed the call but did not mention the planned Putin-Trump meeting set for Friday.

During the conversation, the leaders discussed the progress in bilateral relations under their strategic partnership agreement signed last year, emphasizing their shared commitment to deepen cooperation.

Putin also thanked North Korea for its military support in "liberating" the Kursk region in western Russia during the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, praising the bravery and dedication of North Korean troops.

South Korean intelligence reports estimate that North Korea has sent more than 10,000 troops to assist Russia in western Russia and may be preparing additional deployments.
