Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said that Russia must not “deceive” either Ukraine or the United States over a potential ceasefire, noting that Moscow’s stance now appears to be shifting.
In his daily video address, Zelenskyy reviewed the latest developments in the war, stating that he had visited the front line in the Sumy region earlier today and received operational updates from military commanders.
The Ukrainian leader also confirmed that he had spoken by phone with US President Donald Trump. During the call, they discussed the meeting held in Moscow between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Trump’s Special Envoy for the Middle East, Steve Witkoff.
“The just conclusion of this war is our priority. It seems that Russia is becoming more inclined towards a ceasefire. But what matters most is that they do not deceive us – neither us nor the United States,” Zelenskyy stressed.
He added that Ukraine would continue to defend its independence and that consultations between Ukrainian officials and allied security advisers are expected in the near future to coordinate a common stance on the matter.
