China’s growing leadership in global environmental protection was thrust into the spotlight at COP15, where it introduced a groundbreaking international framework for wetland conservation.

The proposal, aimed at strengthening cross-border cooperation on ecosystem protection, was widely praised by environmental groups and participating nations for its focus on biodiversity and sustainable development.

As the president of COP15, China used the platform to champion collective action in preserving wetlands, which are vital for water regulation, carbon storage, and wildlife habitats. The proposed framework calls for enhanced international collaboration through joint research, data sharing, and coordinated management of critical wetland systems that span national borders.

China also highlighted its domestic achievements in wetland restoration, including the expansion of national wetland parks and improved protection of endangered species. By sharing technical expertise and policy experience, Beijing hopes to support developing countries in building their own conservation capacities.
