The bodies of a pilot and his 13-year-old son have been recovered after their biplane crashed into the sea off the coast of Mallorca, Spanish authorities said on Sunday.

The two-seater Team Rocket F-4 Raider went down near Puerto Soller on Saturday evening, with Spanish media reporting the aircraft had been performing aerial stunts before the accident.

Emergency teams began a search shortly after the crash at around 8:20 p.m., but were unable to locate the victims overnight. The search resumed at first light, and specialist divers from the Civil Guard found the bodies around 1 p.m. on Sunday in waters up to 30 metres deep.

“The lifeless bodies of the pilot and his son were recovered by specialist divers and transferred to the port of Soller,” the Civil Guard said in a statement.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the crash.
