One dead after small plane crashes onto road in New York

A small aircraft crashed onto a road in Rochester, New York, on Friday, killing one man and injuring another, police said.

The single-engine Piper J-5 Cub Cruiser flipped upside down as it came down in the city’s Maplewood Park area shortly after 1:30 p.m. No vehicles were struck during the incident.

One of the two men on board was pronounced dead at the scene. The other was taken to hospital with non life-threatening injuries. Their identities have not yet been released.

The U.S. National Transportation Safety Board and Federal Aviation Administration have launched an investigation. The flight’s origin and intended destination remain unknown.

The crash occurred roughly five miles north of Rochester’s main airport.
