Russia’s car imports have dropped by 63% in the first six months of 2025 compared to the same period last year, falling to 149,300 units, according to data released by Russian automotive analytics agency Avtostat.

China remained the top exporter to Russia, accounting for 77% of all car imports. Kyrgyzstan followed with 8%, Belarus with 4.7%, and South Korea with 4.4%.

Avtostat said the most imported brands during the period were Changan, Geely, Haval, TANK, and Toyota.

Russia’s car market, which nearly collapsed after Western manufacturers withdrew, had shown signs of recovery as Chinese firms ramped up exports and domestic production increased. However, tight monetary policy by the Russian Central Bank has weighed on demand.

New car sales dropped 27% year-on-year in the first half of 2025, falling to 546,000 vehicles.
