A mass Russian drone strike hit the Ukrainian port city of Odesa early Saturday, killing at least one resident and igniting a multi-storey apartment building, the city’s mayor said.
"The enemy launched a massive attack on Odesa with strike drones. Despite the active work of our air defense forces, there is damage to civilian infrastructure," said Odesa Oblast Governor Oleh Kiper.
Local authorities reported that five people were rescued from the burning apartments, but one of the women later died.
Emergency crews are continuing cleanup efforts following the attack, with casualty numbers still considered preliminary.
Images showed flames engulfing upper floors of the apartment block, with rescue crews deploying extended ladders and smoke pouring from windows.
Parents were seen evacuating children wrapped in blankets to safety.
Authorities are still assessing the number of injured.
