Poland is calling for NATO to expand naval patrols in the Baltic Sea, urging both regional and non-regional allies to contribute, in response to growing Russian threats and recent sabotage.

Poland is calling for greater NATO naval involvement in securing the Baltic Sea, including contributions from non-regional allies, amid rising concerns over Russian threats, Defence Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz said.

Poland will push for wider engagement at the NATO summit in June. The issue gained urgency in November after two undersea cables were suspected to have been sabotaged.

Kosiniak-Kamysz stressed that, just as allies patrol Baltic airspace, countries beyond the region should assist with naval security. He cited Germany, France, and the U.S. as potential contributors.

The growing concerns over Russia’s actions and the shifting U.S. focus on China have intensified European calls for stronger defences.

Poland's commitment to defence spending has also been emphasised, with Kosiniak-Kamysz calling for the EU to allocate at least 100 billion euros to defence.
