Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Wednesday that his meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump focused primarily on efforts to secure the release of hostages held in Gaza. He also reiterated his commitment to dismantling Hamas's military and governing capabilities.
Netanyahu noted that the two leaders discussed the implications of what he described as a "great victory over Iran"- a topic raised during his third visit to the U.S. since Trump assumed his second term on 20 January.
Trump and Netanyahu met on Tuesday for the second time in as many days to address the ongoing Gaza conflict. This comes as the U.S. president’s Middle East envoy, Steve Witkoff, suggested that Israel and Hamas were close to finalising a ceasefire deal after nearly two years of hostilities.
According to Axios, a Qatari delegation- mediating indirect talks between Israel and Hamas, held discussions with senior White House officials prior to Netanyahu's arrival. The White House has not commented on the report.
