A 27-year-old gunman was killed and three people were injured on Monday after he opened fire at a U.S. Border Patrol facility in McAllen, Texas, officials said.
The Department of Homeland Security said the suspect opened fire at the entrance of the Border Patrol sector annex in McAllen. Both Border Patrol agents and local police helped stop the shooter, the department said on X.
Two officers and a Border Patrol employee were wounded, including one who was shot in the knee. All were taken to hospital for treatment.
McAllen Police Chief Victor Rodriguez identified the suspect as Ryan Louis Mosqueda during a news conference, according to local broadcaster ABC7.
The FBI is leading the ongoing investigation, the DHS added.
Flights at McAllen International Airport were briefly disrupted but have since resumed normal operations, local police said.
The White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt said the administration is coordinating with federal agencies to understand the incident.
