U.S. President Donald Trump said on Sunday there is a strong chance of reaching a ceasefire agreement with Hamas in Gaza this week.
Speaking in Morristown, New Jersey, Trump said many hostages have already been freed and negotiations are ongoing to release more.
“We think we’ll have that done this week,” he added.
His remarks came ahead of a meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at The White House on Monday.
Asked about the talks’ focus, Trump said, “We’re working on a lot of things with Israel, and one of the things is probably a permanent deal with Iran.”
Netanyahu arrived in Washington on Sunday for discussions on regional issues, including a Gaza ceasefire and a possible prisoner swap.
This is Netanyahu’s third visit to the U.S. in six months. He is also expected to meet senior U.S. officials and congressional leaders from both parties.
