Flash floods in Kerr County, Texas, have left 24 dead and many still missing, including girls from a summer camp, after the Guadalupe River surged 26 feet in less than an hour.

The flooding hit before dawn on 4 July, sweeping through communities and Camp Mystic, where 750 girls were attending a summer program.

"We have floods all the time. This is the most dangerous river valley in the United States," said Rob Kelly, the top local elected official, had said at a news briefing on the disaster

Governor Greg Abbott declared a disaster and pledged unlimited resources for rescue efforts. President Trump vowed federal support, calling the tragedy "shocking."

Nearly 240 people have been rescued or evacuated, many by helicopter, and the risk of more flooding remains high due to ongoing rain forecasts.

Authorities say they had no reason to expect such a severe flood, despite prior alerts. Emergency personnel continue to search the region as devastated families pray for the missing.
