Afghanistan has asked Azerbaijan to support its export efforts to Türkiye and Europe via the Port of Baku, aiming to boost trade through the Lapis Lazuli Corridor.

Representatives from the Baku International Sea Port and the national railway authority confirmed their readiness to facilitate the transit of Afghanistan’s industrial goods, agricultural produce, and minerals through the Lapis Lazuli Corridor.

The Azerbaijani side also pledged to assist in transporting Afghan goods to Russia via rail routes passing through Iran.

The two countries agreed to establish joint technical committees to enhance bilateral trade and transit cooperation, with a focus on increasing Afghanistan’s export capacity.

Currently, the Port of Baku handles 15 million tons of cargo annually, with plans to expand this capacity to 25 million tons in the future.
