Azerbaijan hosted Iceland in their 2026 FIFA World Cup European Qualifying match at the Neftchi Arena in Baku on 13 November.

Albert Gudmundsson opened the scoring in the 20th minute, assisted by Ísak Bergmann Jóhannesson, before Sverrir Ingi Ingason doubled the lead in the 39th minute. The early goals proved decisive as Azerbaijan struggled to respond despite creating chances.

The match, officiated by Montenegrin referee Nikola Dabanović, kicked off at 21:00 local time (GMT+4). Azerbaijan’s starting lineup included goalkeeper Aydın Bayramov, defenders Bəhlul Mustafazadə, Anton Krivotsyuk and Abbas Hüseynov, captain Emin Mahmudov and Abdulah Khaybulayev in midfield, and forwards Toral Bayramov, Nəriman Axundzadə and Xəyal Əliyev.

Iceland relied on Gudmundsson, Hakon Arnar Haraldsson and Jóhannesson to drive their attacks, with Ingason’s header sealing the victory before half-time.

The match is part of Group D, where France and Ukraine are also competing, with France hosting Ukraine later the same evening.
