Turkish Aerospace Industries (TUSAŞ) has signed an historic agreement to sell 48 units of the 5th generation indigenous fighter jet KAAN to Indonesia. The aircraft will be delivered during a 10-year period.
Turkish Aerospace Industries (TUSAŞ) made the announcement of the significant international achievement at the INDO Defence 2025 exhibition held in Indonesia.
These aircraft will be equipped with fully indigenous engines. The agreement not only covers the sale of aircraft but also includes technology transfer and strategic cooperation with Indonesia.
The signing ceremony in Jakarta was attended by high-profile figures including Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, TUSAŞ Chairman Ömer Cihad Vardan, and Türkiye’s Presidential Defense Industries Head Haluk Görgün.
TUSAŞ CEO Mehmet Demiroğlu emphasized the deal’s significance by stating, “Türkiye is now a source of trust for friendly and allied countries,” highlighting this agreement as an important indicator of Türkiye’s rising stature in the global defence industry.
KAAN stands out with its high maneuverability, low radar visibility, and Artificial Intelligence-supported avionics, symbolizing Türkiye’s vision for defence independence. After its maiden flight in 2024, the KAAN jet is set to become fully indigenous with the integration of a national engine, further boosting its export potential.
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan confirmed the deal on social media, “48 KAAN jets will be produced in Türkiye and exported to Indonesia. Indonesia’s local capabilities will also be utilized in the production process.”
Industry and Technology Minister Mehmet Fatih Kacır noted, “As a strong country developing its own 5th generation fighter jet, Türkiye is now signing export agreements with friendly nations.”
Trade Minister Ömer Bolat emphasized that the agreement will lead to new cooperation models in the defence industries of both Türkiye and Indonesia.
Defense Industries Head Haluk Görgün described the KAAN project as “one of the most concrete examples of strategic collaboration.”
Presidential Communications Director Fahrettin Altun remarked, “Our indigenous fighter jet KAAN has achieved its first export success with Indonesia.”
This critical achievement in Türkiye’s defence technologies is set to open a new chapter, reshaping regional and global defence balances.
