Azerbaijan has been selected to host the 2026 Annual Meeting of the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) Group, following a formal handover ceremony held in Algeria.
During the event, Azerbaijan’s Minister of Economy Mikayil Jabbarov was appointed as the Chairman of the IsDB Board of Governors.
In his remarks at the ceremony, Jabbarov expressed gratitude to the IsDB for entrusting Azerbaijan with the responsibility of hosting one of the bank’s most significant gatherings. He highlighted that this would mark the second time Azerbaijan hosts the event, recalling the successful organization of the 35th Annual Meeting in 2010.
Jabbarov noted that hosting the 2026 meeting would serve to strengthen Azerbaijan’s ties with Islamic financial institutions, attract new investment opportunities, and support the country’s ambitions for sustainable economic development.
A Memorandum of Understanding was signed during the ceremony, outlining the facilities and logistical support Azerbaijan will provide for the upcoming meeting.
The IsDB Annual Meeting is a key platform for high-level discussions on development policy, investment, and cooperation among member countries. Hosting the event is expected to elevate Azerbaijan's visibility in international development circles and underscore its growing role in the Islamic financial community.
