Azerbaijan has been selected to host the 2026 Annual Meeting of the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) Group, following the appointment of Mikayil Jabbarov, the country’s Minister of Economy, as Chairman of the Bank’s Board of Governors.
The decision was formally marked at a host country handover ceremony held in Algeria. During the event, Jabbarov expressed Azerbaijan’s appreciation for the confidence shown by the IsDB Group and reiterated the country’s commitment to fostering deeper cooperation with Islamic financial institutions.
Reflecting on Azerbaijan’s successful hosting of the 35th Annual Meeting of the IsDB Group in 2010, the minister highlighted the positive impact such events have on strengthening economic partnerships and attracting new investment. He noted that the upcoming meeting will further support Azerbaijan’s goals for sustainable economic development.
A Memorandum of Understanding was also signed during the ceremony, outlining the facilities and commitments Azerbaijan will provide to ensure the successful organization of the 2026 gathering.
The IsDB Annual Meeting serves as a key platform for dialogue on development financing and collaboration among member countries, and its return to Azerbaijan underscores the country's growing role in the global Islamic finance ecosystem.
