Georgia’s ruling party, "Georgian Dream," has nominated Mikheil Kavelashvili as its presidential candidate for the upcoming election. A former football player and far-right politician, Kavelashvili was chosen amid ongoing protests over disputed results of last months parliamentary elections.The Georgian Dream party, officially, received nearly 54 percent of the vote.
The president is set to be elected on December 14th by an electoral college, marking a shift from the previous direct voting system. Kavelashvili says he plans to restore the presidency’s constitutional role and unite Georgian society.
