Azerbaijan and Malaysia held high-level talks to deepen ties in trade, energy, education, and diplomacy, with both sides highlighting cooperation in global forums and celebrating Azerbaijan’s recent diplomatic milestones, including hosting COP29.
Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov met with Malaysia’s Deputy Foreign Minister Mohamad Alamin to strengthen cooperation across various sectors. The two sides discussed joint efforts in trade, economic growth, energy security, education, tourism, and alternative energy, while also touching on regional and global developments.
Both countries expressed strong interest in deepening bilateral ties and emphasised the importance of regular political dialogue and direct communication. The meeting also explored ways to expand cooperation between Azerbaijan and ASEAN, as well as within international platforms like the UN, OIC, Non-Aligned Movement, and D-8.
Azerbaijan’s recent membership in the D-8 was positively received, and officials welcomed the country’s upcoming chairmanship of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO), which includes hosting the ECO Summit in Baku in 2026.
Malaysia congratulated Azerbaijan for its leadership in global climate efforts, including hosting COP29, and acknowledged its recent diplomatic achievements.
Political consultations were also held between both foreign ministries, with Deputy Foreign Minister Elnur Mammadov representing Azerbaijan and Deputy Minister Mohamad Alamin leading the Malaysian side. The discussions reinforced shared goals and explored further avenues for collaboration.
