Azerbaijan wins nine medals at 2026 Presidential Cup international regatta

Azerbaijan won nine medals at the 2026 President Cup international regatta, held in Mingachevir and dedicated to Azerbaijan’s former president and national leader, Heydar Aliyev.

Tengiz Gagnidze and Giyas Ahmadov claimed gold in the 200-metre double kayak race on the final day of competition in Mingachevir.

Azerbaijani athletes secured one gold, one silver and two bronze medals on the closing day, bringing their total medal haul to nine for the event.

After his victory, Giyas Ahmadov thanked the national Water Sports Federation for its support during training.

“Our federation supported us a lot. We were studying at the academy and they allowed us to come here today. We had very good training sessions; thanks to that we have now achieved first place,” he said.

Georgia also delivered a strong performance, securing the team cup in both the rowing and canoe events.

More than 100 athletes from Azerbaijan, along with competitors from 15 other countries - including Georgia, Germany, Türkiye and Uzbekistan - participated in the tournament. The event was co-organised by the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Azerbaijan Water Sports Federation.
