Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan arrived in Washington on Wednesday ahead of a meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump.
Trump will host Erdoğan at The White House on Thursday, with talks expected to focus on trade, investment, defence industry cooperation and regional issues.
Erdoğan said earlier he believed the meeting would contribute to peace efforts in the region and further strengthen bilateral ties.
He had been in New York for the United Nations General Assembly, where he attended a reception hosted by Trump and First Lady Melania Trump for world leaders, and took part in a multilateral meeting on Gaza.
After those discussions, Erdoğan called the talks "very productive and positive", expressing his satisfaction with the outcome.
While in Washington, Erdoğan will stay at Blair House, the U.S. president’s official guest residence.
