The Saudi-led coalition in Yemen said late Monday that it intercepted and destroyed two ballistic missiles launched by the Houthi group toward Khamis Mushait in southwestern Saudi Arabia.
Britain's Prime Minister Andy Burnham has said the United Kingdom believes Iran was likely behind an alleged plot connected to RAF Fairford, a military airbase in Gloucestershire in England that has played a role in U.S. operations against Iran.
Speaking in Parliament, Burnham said British intelligence assessments indicate the operation was probably directed from Iran and was likely linked to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), Iran's powerful military organisation.
Tehran has firmly rejected the allegation and demanded evidence to support the claim.
Meanwhile, Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand expressed solidarity with the United Kingdom in a statement on X. She said Canada had joined 28 other countries in condemning the alleged acts and calling for accountability.
U.S. President Donald Trump criticised Yemen’s Houthi group Monday but did not outline any specific measures that his administration might take in response to its actions.
Speaking to reporters as he departed the White House for Ohio, Trump was asked what he planned to do about the Houthis.
“Well, the Houthis are misbehaving very badly. No good,” he replied.
Etihad Airways said it had cancelled flights between Abu Dhabi and Saudi Arabia's Riyadh, Jeddah and Dammam due to “regional disruption”, as Yemen's Iran-aligned Houthi group continues to carry out attacks on the Saudi kingdom.
All flights between Abu Dhabi and Riyadh have been cancelled until 19 October, it said.
Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman has rejected an Israeli push to join the military campaign against Yemen's Houthi group, despite efforts to secure Riyadh's approval through U.S. mediation, the Israeli newspaper Haaretz reported Monday.
The daily, citing an unnamed diplomatic source, said the crown prince was not interested in Israeli military assistance, fearing that cooperation with Israel could provoke a negative reaction among the Saudi public.
Another source familiar with the matter said Israel hoped military cooperation with Saudi Arabia would strengthen bilateral ties and pave the way for a future normalisation agreement.
Earlier Monday evening, Saudi Arabia's Civil Defence issued an emergency warning in Khamis Mushait over a potential threat. The warning was issued through the National Early Warning Platform, the agency said on X.
About 10 minutes later, Civil Defence announced that the danger had passed, urging residents to continue following safety instructions and avoid gathering or filming.
Saudi Arabia has faced a series of attacks in recent days on airports and civilian facilities amid an escalating military confrontation with the Houthis.
