Syria’s permanent representative to the United Nations, Ibrahim Olabi, said Israel has occupied the Syrian Golan Heights for almost sixty years, and that the UN General Assembly this month once again reaffirmed Syria’s sovereignty over the region.
Speaking at a UN Security Council meeting on Monday, Olabi said 123 countries voted in favour of a resolution calling for the full withdrawal of Israeli forces, according to Syria’s state news agency SANA.

Olabi also stated that Israel is obstructing the work of the UN peacekeeping mission in the Golan Heights and should withdraw its forces from Mount Hermon in line with the 1974 Disengagement Agreement.
