Turkmenistan’s economy grows 6.3% in first five months of 2025

Turkmenistan’s gross domestic product (GDP) grew by 6.3% in January–May 2025 compared to the same period last year, according to Deputy Prime Minister Hojamyrat Geldimyradov, who presented macroeconomic data to the Cabinet of Ministers.

Key sector growth rates during the period:

  • Transport and communications: +10.8%
  • Trade: +9.9%
  • Services: +8.6%
  • Construction: +4.7%
  • Agriculture: +4.0%
  • Industry: +0.8%
     

Total industrial production increased 9.7%, while retail turnover rose 12.5% and foreign trade turnover grew 5.4% year-on-year.

The state budget performance was solid, with revenues executed at 101.2% and expenditures at 97.6%. Salaries in large and medium-sized enterprises increased 11.4%. Social payments, including pensions and student stipends, were reported to be paid on time.

Capital investment from all sources was up 16.3%, and progress continues under the National Rural Program.

President Serdar Berdimuhamedov emphasized the need to sustain economic momentum and directed strict oversight of national development programs.
