The Tazhen border checkpoint on the Kazakhstan–Uzbekistan border will remain closed for an additional four months, until September 1, 2025, according to Kazakhstan’s State Revenue Committee (KDG) of the Ministry of Finance.
The closure affects pedestrians, passenger vehicles, buses, and cargo vehicles weighing up to 3.5 tons.
Authorities say the decision was made to ensure citizen safety and to accelerate construction and reconstruction work at the site. Ongoing efforts include the installation of metal structures, engineering infrastructure upgrades, and major renovations of border checkpoint buildings.
Additionally, from May through August, Kazakhstan’s KazAvtoZhol national company will be constructing a new road in the neutral zone between the Tazhen (Kazakhstan) and Daut Ata (Uzbekistan) checkpoints. Similar construction is planned on the Uzbek side.
Due to the ongoing work, Kazakhstan formally requested Uzbekistan to extend the closure, and Uzbekistan agreed.
“We strongly urge citizens to take this information into account when planning their travel and routes,” the committee said.
The Tazhen–Daut Ata crossing has been temporarily closed since February 1, 2025, as part of the broader reconstruction of the border facilities.
