A massive 95-car collision near Astana injured 12 people amid bad weather in Kazakhstan, with recovery efforts ongoing, authorities said Friday.
At least 12 people were injured in a massive car collision involving 95 cars in Kazakhstan's Akmola region, according to the country's highway operator, KazAvtoJol. The incident occurred on Friday amid adverse weather conditions.
In a statement shared on Telegram, KazAvtoJol explained that traffic restrictions had been imposed earlier for all vehicles due to worsening weather along a highway connecting Petropavl in the north to the capital, Astana. Despite the highway being reopened after conditions improved, a major collision occurred near the village of Zhanatalap, approximately 27 kilometers (16.7 miles) north of Astana.
The statement confirmed that 12 injured individuals were transported to the district hospital. By 9 p.m. (16:00 GMT), 85 of the 95 vehicles involved had been removed from the Astana-Petropavl highway. Efforts to clear the road are ongoing.
