An online petition is calling for singer Pink to be removed from her UNICEF role following criticism of Macklemore over his pro-Palestinian remarks during Ed Sheeran’s U.S. tour.
The Change.org petition accuses Pink of making statements that its organisers say are incompatible with UNICEF’s humanitarian principles and its commitment to protecting children regardless of nationality or background.
The petition emerged after Pink criticised Macklemore’s performance at New Jersey’s MetLife Stadium, where the rapper expressed support for Palestinians and performed his protest song “Hind’s Hall” while images from Gaza were displayed.
Pink later clarified her position, saying her message was one of peace and dignity for all people and condemning violence against children.
The controversy intensified after Macklemore was removed from eight remaining U.S. dates on Sheeran’s Loop Tour.
Tour promoter Messina Touring Group said the decision followed objections from venues that were unwilling to host shows featuring Macklemore.
The rapper had told audiences that Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank had not been forgotten and said part of his motivation for joining the tour was to bring his message to large stadium audiences.
Macklemore has rejected accusations of antisemitism and said his advocacy is focused on Palestinian rights and opposition to Israeli government policies.
Sheeran later distanced himself from the decision to remove Macklemore, saying it was made by the tour promoter rather than by him personally.
The fallout has since skyrocketed, with supporting acts Aaron Rowe, Beoga, Finneas and Lukas Graham withdrawing from the tour in solidarity with Macklemore.
The petition argues that representatives associated with UNICEF should advocate for children affected by conflict without discrimination and asks the organisation to reconsider Pink’s position.
UNICEF has not publicly announced any action against Pink in response to the petition.
