U.S. R&B artist Chris Brown was arrested in the UK on Thursday in connection with an alleged assault at a London nightclub in February 2023, according to a report by the Sun newspaper.
The 36-year-old singer was detained at a Manchester hotel shortly after 2 a.m. local time, London’s Metropolitan Police confirmed in a statement. The arrest relates to an incident in Hanover Square, central London, where a music producer was reportedly attacked with a bottle at Tape nightclub.
Police said a 36-year-old man was taken into custody on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm. “He has been taken into custody where he remains,” the statement said. Authorities did not publicly name the suspect in line with standard procedure.
Brown had arrived in Manchester on Wednesday ahead of a planned global tour that includes multiple performances across the UK. His representatives have not yet commented on the arrest.
The singer is known for songs including “Run It,” “Loyal,” and “Under the Influence.” His past legal issues have drawn significant media attention, though he has continued to maintain a large international fanbase.
