The Carolina Herrera fashion house celebrated its 45th anniversary with a vibrant runway show at New York's Fashion Week on Monday, presenting its spring 2025 collection against a backdrop of sunshine-coloured tulips.
Creative director Wes Gordon said he wanted the space to feature a “carpet of yellow flowers”, using what he calls “taxicab yellow” to create an energetic setting for the show.
The collection included collaborations with The New Yorker magazine, as well as Andy Warhol’s portrait of Carolina Herrera, licenced for the first time and featured on bags and dresses.
Gordon said Herrera, whom he described as a close friend, had praised one of the dresses featuring Warhol’s work and said the artist would have liked it.
The show opened with black-and-white daywear accented with flashes of yellow before moving into bold Herrera red and pistachio-coloured mini dresses and gowns.
Gordon said colour was central to the house’s identity, describing energy and vibrancy as his main requirements when selecting shades.
“I love a pastel, I love all colours,” Gordon said. “My requirement is that a colour have energy and that it have vibrancy.”
He added that he was particularly specific about shades because he did not see Herrera as a house associated with “sad, muted tones”.
