The Golden Globe awards on January 5 saw Shogun take center stage, winning Best Television Drama alongside acting accolades for its stars Hiroyuki Sanada and Anna Sawai. Sanada claimed Best Male Actor, while Sawai won Best Female Actor for their roles in the Disney+/Hulu series set in 17th-century Japan.
UK-based Netflix series Baby Reindeer, which centers on the true story of a turbulent relationship between a female stalker and her comedian victim, also earned recognition at the awards ceremony in Los Angeles. The show took home the Best Limited Series prize. Creator Richard Gadd expressed hope that the success of Baby Reindeer would encourage more shows tackling "the painful inconsistencies of being human." Gadd's co-star, Jessica Gunning, won Best Actress in a Limited Series for her portrayal of the unpredictable stalker.
In film, The Brutalist claimed the Golden Globe for Best Motion Picture – Drama, while star Adrien Brody won Best Actor for his role. Meanwhile, Emilia Perez, a musical thriller, was named Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy, and Zoe Saldana won Best Supporting Actress for her emotional performance in the film.
Other notable winners included Jean Smart, who earned Best Actress in a TV Comedy or Musical for Hacks, and Colin Farrell, who was recognized for his transformative role in The Penguin.
The Golden Globes, a key fixture in Hollywood's awards season, were selected by a voting body of 334 entertainment journalists from 85 countries.
