Music mega-star Taylor Swift and National Football League player Travis Kelce announced their engagement. “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married," the couple wrote in a joint Instagram post, alongside photos of Kelce proposing to Swift in a garden of pink and white flowers.
Within just 20 minutes, the couple’s Instagram post drew more than 1.8 million likes, and has now received more than 24 million likes, underscoring the global excitement. For Swift’s fans, this isn’t just about her celebrity, it’s the culmination of a carefully cultivated brand.
Swift has won 14 Grammys, including an unparalleled four album of the year trophies. Kelce is a tight end who has helped the Chiefs win three Super Bowls and made his career catching passes from star quarterback Patrick Mahomes. Swift and Kelce are both 35.
According to Kelce’s father, Ed Kelce, the proposal took place almost two weeks ago in a garden in Lee Summit, Missouri, a suburb of Kansas City.
The wedding date hasn't been announced yet.
The two started dating in 2023 after the singer performed at Arrowhead Stadium - home of the Chiefs and the couple's romance has roots in a viral moment on Travis and Jason Kelce's (Philadelphia Eagles) 'New Heights' podcast.
“This podcast has done a lot for me. I owe a lot to this podcast. This podcast got me a boyfriend, um, ever since Travis decided to use it as his personal dating app about two years ago,” Swift reflected in a recent episode referring to an earlier clip from Kelce on the same podcast, in which he expressed disappointment that he didn’t get to meet her, and joked about giving her his phone number.
In the old clip Travis said, "“I was disappointed that she doesn't talk before or after her shows... I was a little butthurt I didn't get to hand her one of the bracelets I made for her... I wanted to give Taylor Swift one with my number on it.”
Swift said watching that moment later made her feel like she was "in an '80s John Hughes movie, and he was... standing outside of my window with a boombox and being like, 'I want to date you."
The singer, known for writing songs about love and heartbreak, said of her engagement, “If this guy isn't crazy, which is a big if, this is sort of what I've been writing songs about wanting to happen to me since I was a teenager.”
