Estonia, Slovakia lead euro area inflation as energy costs fall

Eurozone annual inflation reached 2.1% in August, up from 2% in July, Eurostat announced on Wednesday.

Among the main components, food, alcohol and tobacco posted the highest annual increase at 3.2%, followed by services at 3.1% and non-energy industrial goods at 0.8%. Energy prices fell by 1.9% in August, after a 2.4% decline in July.

The highest inflation rates were recorded in Estonia (4.6%), Slovakia (4.3%) and Latvia (3.7%). The lowest figures were reported in the Greek Cypriot Administration (0.4%), France (0.6%) and Ireland (1.4%).
